New cases of COVID-19 in PEI increased by 32% over the previous week

COVID-19 cases have increased in PEI as the tourist season enters its busiest months, according to weekly data released on Tuesday.

The province has reported 1,070 new cases in the last seven days, 32% more than the 808 cases the previous week.

The average number of cases per day increased from 115 to 153.

The number of people hospitalized with COVID-19 rose again to 10, although four were admitted for other reasons and then tested positive. There is a person with COVID-19 in the Intensive Care Unit.

PEI has 1,394 active cases.

There were a total of 41,876 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in PEI and 45 deaths.

There were an average of 354 tests per day during the week, with over 43% testing positive.
