Hayden Panettiere is well aware that his fight at the hotel with former Brian Hickerson was not his best hour.
“It wasn’t my best behavior, it wasn’t anyone’s best behavior,” the 32-year-old actress told People of the March in an interview published Wednesday.
The altercation took place outside the Sunset Marquis in Los Angeles, with Panettiere trying to break up a fight between her 33-year-old boyfriend and his teammates.
“It wasn’t as crazy as it sounded, and everyone was fine,” the “Nashville” alum said in the magazine.
Panettiere gave an insight into his decision to reconnect with Hickerson, who was arrested in 2019 on charges of domestic violence. Although the case was later shelved, he was charged again in 2020 and pleaded not guilty to two counts of injuring a couple.

“None of that is okay, and I want to make sure everyone knows that,” the “Heroes” student said in People of Hickerson’s past behavior. “But I’m open to people who are willing to get help and amend.”
Panettiere noted that the sales executive has “gone to treatment and made his time,” adding, “I’m trying to live in a place of forgiveness.”
He explained that doing so has given him “a lot of inner peace.”

When the Golden Globe nominee began dating Hickerson in 2018, she lived a “very dark moment” in her life.
“A lot of women go through what I went through and I want people to know it’s okay to ask for help,” she told the magazine. “I want to make sure everyone knows that every person who goes through something like this, is on their own journey. No two things are exactly alike.”
Panettiere was addicted to alcohol and opioids at the time, and shared that her “cycle of self-destruction” led her to send her 7-year-old daughter Kaya to live with her father Wladimir Klitschko in Ukraine.
“It was the hardest thing I’ve ever had to do,” he admitted. “But she wanted to be a good mother to her, and sometimes that means letting them go.”
