Newham crash: elderly woman fighting for her life after 4 people hit by a car in east London

Four pedestrians were hit by a car in east London on Saturday afternoon (May 28) with an elderly woman struggling for her life after being flown to hospital. Emergency services, including firefighters, paramedics, police and an air ambulance were called at around 4.40pm. The driver was treated by paramedics after the accident on Green Street, near Upton Park in Newham, while the other three pedestrians were taken to hospital with less serious injuries.

The driver stopped at the scene and was assisting the police. While police are continuing their investigation, Green Street remains closed in both directions with traffic in the area. Buses are on detour. The Newham Council issued a statement advising people to avoid the area.

They tweeted: “We are aware of a traffic incident in Green St this afternoon, which involved a vehicle and 4 pedestrians. It is recommended to avoid the area due to congestion. A driver is being treated by LAS and a person has been airlifted to hospital. “
