California Gov. Gavin Newsom has tested positive for COVID-19 and will be isolated until June 2, his office announced Saturday. The governor will work remotely until he is out of quarantine.
In a statement, the California governor’s press office announced that the governor is experiencing mild symptoms. He is fully vaccinated against COVID-19, including two booster injections as recent as May 18th.

On Saturday evening, the Newsom press office announced that the governor had received a prescription for Pfizer’s Paxlovid, and would immediately begin his five-day treatment.

According to the Governor’s Press Office, Newsom will follow the California SMARTER plan which includes the negative test before leaving quarantine. According to the Newsom press office, the California SMARTER plan implemented by Newsom is expected to fight the virus “by testing and treating patients to prevent serious illness.”
