Possible relief from incoming bombs for NS drivers

Drivers in Nova Scotia can expect a possible relief from high petrol and diesel prices from midnight.

The Nova Scotia Utility and Review Board said in a press release Wednesday that the shutdown clause will be invoked to adjust gas and diesel prices due to significant changes in market prices.

The statement did not say whether prices would adjust up or down.

CBC News reporter Robert Jones, who predicts gas prices for the grid, said he expects the price of both gas and diesel to drop 10 cents or more per liter.

Halifax motorists paid a minimum of 203.4 cents per liter of normal gas on Wednesday, meaning prices on Thursday could drop to 193.4 cents or less.

According to the statement, gasoline and diesel prices are based on the daily market price on the New York Mercantile Exchange converted into Canadian dollars.

The Petroleum Products Pricing Act and Regulations allow the board to use the discontinuation clause to respond to significant peaks in rising or falling petroleum product prices.
