“I’m incredibly happy and I feel ready to play for City,” he said.
“This is, without a doubt, one of the biggest teams in world football. Just look at what this team has gained over the last decade to understand the quality of the setup.
“I’m sure I can flourish here. The style of play that Pep encourages is exciting and I can’t wait to be a part of it.
“City has an incredible recent history of Argentine players and I want to put my stamp on the Club in the same way that Sergio Agüero, Pablo Zabaleta and Carlos Tevez did.
“I am very grateful for all that River Plate did for me and I want to thank the fans, staff and players for their support.
“But now I am 100% focused on Manchester City. I want to give my best to this club, help my teammates and contribute to the success of Manchester City.”
Txiki Begiristain added: “When we announced the signing, I said we had a player with significant potential and everything we have seen from him since then has only confirmed it.
“He scores all kinds of goals and has a great variety in his game.
“We feel that with the coach and the staff that we have here, he can develop even more and become a really important player.”

Alvarez made his senior debut at River Plate in October 2018 and has since forged a reputation as one of Argentina’s best young strikers.
He scored 53 goals and 31 assists in 120 appearances at River Plate, including a goal in his 4-0 win over Racing in November, a result that sealed the Argentine league title.
Alvarez made his senior international debut in a World Cup qualifier against Chile in June last year, replacing Angel Di Maria with an hour to go, and was part of the team that won the Cup America in July.
In total, he has nine games with Argentina, with one goal.
Everyone at Manchester City is looking forward to seeing Julian and we wish him all the best during his stay here.
