The suspect located after the shooting in Langham is calling for an emergency alert

Justin Heimbecker (Sent)

One person has died and a suspect has been located following an emergency alert in the town of Langham on Friday morning.

At around 7:40 a.m. an emergency alert was issued warning residents to stay inside and close the doors.

A second alert message named Justin Heimbecker as a suspect, warned that he considered himself armed and dangerous, and confirmed that one person was dead.

According to Corman Park police, Heimbecker was captured shortly before noon on Friday and there is no longer any threat to the public.

At 12:15 p.m., the Mounties issued a statement to the media saying they were canceling the alert and lifting the order requiring people in the Langham area to take refuge in their place.

Corman Park police chief Ron Chomyn confirmed at 650 CKOM that Heimbecker was located. The local police service supported the RCMP, Chomyn said, but could not share further details about the incident.

Carol Epp, who lives in Langham, described what it was like to be sitting at home while police searched the city.

“We’ve heard a lot of sirens (and) there’s police going on, but that’s all,” he said before Heimbecker was arrested.
