Fire at Elizabeth Quay’s Chevron Headquarters Causes $ 200,000 in Damage to High-rise Tower

A fire in a new high-rise building on Elizabeth Quay has left a heavy bill of damage in its wake.

The 29-story Chevron headquarters, which is still under construction, was engulfed in flames Friday night, causing $ 200,000 worth of damage to the tower block.

An investigation has been opened this morning to determine if the cause of the fire was suspicious.

The $ 360 million development, which will be Perth’s new home for oil and gas giant Chevron, is due to be completed early next year.

Firefighters arrived at the scene around 2:15 pm yesterday and spent an hour trying to put out the flames.

Passers-by said they could smell burnt rubber and see smoke before calling triple-0.

The scaffolding on the second floor caught fire and a walkway made of wood and metal was damaged due to the fire.

Signs were also burned at the front of the building.

Eight firefighters from Perth, Vincent and Osborne Park stations were deployed in the blaze.

Police blocked the entrance to the strip of The Esplanade and were diverting traffic from the incident.
