An alleged driver of alcohol who fled the scene after a serious car accident has been charged after the dramatic arrest of a citizen in West Perth.

Traffic enforcement officials reported that the 26-year-old was driving a white VW Golf sedan on Charles Street when he passed a red light at the intersection of Carr Street around 1:20 a.m. Sunday. crashing into a Toyota Prius station sedan as a result. .

While the VW Golf was driving down the street, it mounted a curb and blew up several garbage cans before hitting a streetlight.

The impact caused the light to hit the road and rubbish littered the street.

The Toyota Prius, which was carrying six passengers plus the driver of the shared car, struck a gas junction box outside a complex of units, breaking the gas pipes.

Several people in the car were slightly injured. Both cars were badly damaged.

Police say the VW Golf driver fled the scene on foot.

He was arrested by several of the passengers traveling on Newcastle Street when police arrived.

Firefighters also attended to the incident, responding to a broken gas pipe.
