Millions more Australians can get an additional boost of COVID-19 starting today

As of today, an additional 7.5 million Australians are eligible for the fourth time COVID-19, causing an increase in demand.

Anyone over the age of 30 can now go to their local pharmacy or GP to get a second booster, if they received the third dose at least three months ago, or if they contracted COVID-19 three months ago.

Pfizer and Moderna have been approved for the additional blows, which so far have been mostly taken by people between the ages of 50 and 65.

There are currently more than 250,000 Australians infected with COVID-19, but our health authorities say that number is likely to be much higher due to unreported cases.

In addition, an average of 300 Australians die with COVID-19 each week.

Health experts are concerned about the ongoing third wave of COVID-19, which is being driven by an increase in Omicron BA.4 and BA.5 subvariants.

Expanded reinforcement eligibility is expected to not only curb transmission rates, but also relieve pressure on hospital systems.

In addition, those over the age of 70 who have COVID-19 will now have affordable access to antiviral treatments that have been added to the Pharmaceutical Benefits Plan.
