Firefighters are urging residents to avoid the area while tackling a fire in a community pavilion Sunday morning (July 10).
Posting on Facebook, Tadley Fire Station wrote: “We are currently witnessing a pavilion fire in Silchester.
“Please avoid the area to allow crews to work.”
A spokesman for the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service said: “Tadley, Basingstoke and RBFRS firefighters are currently battling a fire involving a wooden sports pavilion on Pamber Road in Silchester.
“Control room operators received the first call at 8.38am and, due to the information provided, mobilized more resources for the incident.
“The roof of the single-storey building, which was also used as a cafeteria, was well lit when firefighters arrived and began a rescue operation.
“Using breathing apparatus, firefighters have now extinguished the roof fire with jets and hose reels, and are now removing the tiles from the roof to check the spread of the fire.
“Please avoid the area as crews continue to resolve the incident.”
They added that no casualties or people were reported, and that the cause of the fire has not yet been established.
