The developer Supermassive Games, creator of The Dark Pictures Anthology and The Quarry, has been acquired by the Danish company Nordisk Games. The new owners initially bought 30.7% of the developer’s stake last year. Nordisk Games is a division of Nordisk Films, the oldest film producer still in operation.
“It’s been a little over a year since Nordisk Games made an initial investment in Supermassive Games and our vision for the future,” Pete Samuels, CEO of Supermassive Games, said in a blog post. “During this time, we have discovered that we share many important values with Mikkel and his team, and we believe that these values are equally important to our existing business partners whom we will continue to support.”
“Having had such a positive experience over the last year, it wasn’t a difficult decision when Nordisk Games wanted to explore increasing its investment,” Samuels continued. “We have an exciting and ambitious growth strategy for Supermassive Games and ownership of Nordisk Games just improves that. I’m very excited about where the security this partnership offers us and continued access to the Nordisk Games experience will bring us.”
Nordisk Games already has a stake in several game developers, such as MercuryStream and Flashbulb Games. The company is also the wholly owned owner of Avalanche Studios, the creators of the Just Cause game series.
“The year we’ve worked alongside Pete and Joe and the entire Supermassive team, it’s become clear to us how much talent, as well as the potential, there is to further develop the types of games based on stories and narratives. which stand out. “, said Mikkel Weider, CEO of Nordisk Games. “By acquiring 100% of the studio, we will be able to increase our support for the team and, most importantly, continue the great working relationship we have with them.”
