Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge was released last month on various platforms and with very positive reviews. Now, the studio behind the retro-inspired beat ‘em up arcade has shared the news that TMNT: Shredder’s Revenge sold a million copies in its first week alone. Awesome as the shell, I say!
Developed by Tribute Games and released by DotEmu, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge came out on Xbox, PlayStation, Switch and PC on June 16th. And apparently, according to a new Tribute Games tweet, the cooperative brawler was able to exchange a million copies on June 23rd.
💥Cowabunga! We are honored to have so many people sharing our love for turtles! One million copies sold during its first week requires a world-class pizza party with tubular topping! 🍕 Thanks again to all of you around the world and Dimension. X! pic.twitter.com/x7kkJS6fbF

“We are honored to have so many people sharing our love for turtles,” Tribute Games tweeted. “One million copies sold during its first week requires a tubular pizza party with tubular topping! Thanks again to all of you around the world and to Dimension X!”
It’s interesting to remember that Shredder’s Revenge was released the first day on the Xbox Game Pass, making that million copies sold even more impressive. And now, a few weeks after the initial release date of June 16, it is very likely that the new TMNT game has sold even more than a million copies. All that money could buy a lot of pizza.
Kotaku’s Jeremy Winslow himself described the game as a “riotous time” that only becomes more “wedding” when some friends come in and play cooperatively. And I agree! I’ve already won the game three times with two different groups of people using the co-op on the couch and I’ve had a great time each time. I don’t even care about TMNTs or arcade beat ‘em ups, but I still had a radical time with Shredder’s Revenge.
I’m curious to see how TMNT’s next collection of retro games will go after the hugely successful Shredder’s Revenge. I can imagine that now a lot more people are interested in playing more TMNT video games. And the 13 TMNT games in the Cowabunga collection may be the perfect one to scratch that itch.
In addition, DotEmu and Tribute have said that depending on how the game is sold, they could add DLC or more costumes in the future. I have to think that a million copies sold in seven days could help convince bean counters to spend money on DLC.
