Hidden features of iOS 16 that you may not be aware of

IOS 16, which will be released this fall, is the next-generation version of iOS, and is loaded with tons of important changes, such as a brand new customizable lock screen. There are also a number of smaller, lesser-known features, and in our latest YouTube video, we highlight some good additions you may not be familiar with.

  • Fixed Safari Tabs – You’ve been able to set a Safari tab on your Mac for a long time, but fixed tabs didn’t work with iOS 15. This has changed to ‌iOS 16‌ and you can now set your favorite tabs, even within groups tabs.
  • Combine duplicate contacts – Tired of having multiple contact cards for the same person? In ‌iOS 16‌ you can combine duplicate contacts directly from the Contacts application.
  • Get rid of duplicate photos: The Photos app ‌iOS 16‌ can alert you if you have multiple photos of it, giving you the opportunity to remove extras to save space. Duplicate photos are listed in a new “Duplicates” album that appears if you have duplicates to deal with.
  • Copy and paste photo edits: Do you want all your photos to have the same look, or do you want to make improvements to a whole bunch of images? This is possible with the new copy and paste feature for photo editing, which allows you to copy edits from one photo and apply them to another photo with one touch.
  • AirPods Updates: It’s easier to manage AirPods settings on ‌iOS 16‌ with a new dedicated section that appears in the Settings app when AirPods are connected. ‌IOS 16‌ also adds a new custom spatial audio feature that uses the TrueDepth camera to scan your ears and the area around you, offering a unique listening experience tailored just for you.
  • Face ID in landscape mode: iPhone models with ‌iOS 16‌ support Face ID in landscape mode, so it’s easier to unlock the “iPhone” when not in standard portrait orientation. The feature is limited to the iPhone 13 and later.
  • Note passwords: Instead of creating a new password for a note, you can now only use your device password or face ID / touch ID to lock a note, which is much easier.
  • Haptic keyboard feedback: There is a keyboard setting in ‌iOS 16‌ that allows you to activate the haptic feedback that can be heard when you are typing. Vibrations are for every keystroke, giving users a physical confirmation that a letter has been pressed.
  • Protect hidden and deleted photos: In ‌iOS 16‌, you need to authenticate with aceFace ID‌ or ouTouch ID‌ before you can access recently hidden and deleted photo albums. This basically blocks these albums from view if someone has the password for your device.
  • WiFi Password: If you’ve ever been frustrated by the inaccessibility of the WiFi password on the network you’re using, this is changing to ‌iOS 16‌. In the iPhone’s WiFi settings, you can see the password for the network you’re connected to.
