Arsenal are working on a deal to sign Oleksandr Zinchenko from Manchester City.
According to The Athletic, talks are underway and, as Sportsmail reported in May, City are open to selling the Ukrainian international for the right price and Mikel Arteta wants to make the bite.
Arteta worked with Zinchenko during his time as Pep Guardiola’s No. 2 at City.
Arsenal are working to sign defender Oleksandr Zinchenko from Manchester City
Zinchenko, a defender, has played 127 games for City since joining the club in 2016.
He would be the second City player to head to the Emirates Stadium this summer after Arsenal signed Gabriel Jesus earlier in the summer transfer window.
Zinchenko has been at City since 2016, when he was brought in from the Russian Ufa. He spent some time on loan at Dutch side PSV Eindhoven before joining the first team at City.
He has made 127 appearances in all competitions for the current Premier League starters. He has four Premier League titles to his name.
In recent months, Zinchenko has spoken out strongly about the Russian invasion of his native Ukraine. In an interview with Gary Lineker on BBC Sport in March, he said we would have fought on the front lines if he didn’t have a daughter.
“Even when I drive the car from the training ground, I can only cry out of nowhere,” the 25-year-old said. ‘It’s all in my head. Imagine the place where you were born, where you grew up and there is only empty ground.
The 25-year-old has spoken loudly about the Russian invasion of his home country, Ukraine.
Zinchenko told Gary Lineker that he was willing to take up arms and join the Ukrainian forces
“I can show you a million images and videos from every city in my country that you destroyed.
‘A security operation? Impossible. This is a real war. What they are doing is not acceptable. We need to stop this.
‘The people there are sending me facts … they’re starving. People just survive, sleep underground and in bunkers.
“I’ll be honest, if it weren’t for my daughter, my family, I would be there. I was just born that way. I know the people of my country, the mentality of them and they all think exactly the same thing.
“I’m very proud to be Ukrainian and I will be forever the rest of my life. And when you look at people, how they fight for their lives … there are no words.”
