The Mick Schumacher ESPN car splits in two in a crash at the Wet Monaco Grand Prix

MONTE CARLO – Mick Schumacher escaped unharmed from a major accident at the Monaco Grand Prix that caused the second red flag of the event.

A shower just before the scheduled start delayed the race by 70 minutes, and it was finally set in motion by a drying track.

The riders had just completed the change from full and intermediate wet tires to dry tires when Schumacher, 17th, lost control of his car across the pool section and crashed into the wall at the exit of the chicane.

Schumacher’s rear suspension and rear spoiler were completely separated from the Haas car.

Schumacher, the son of seven-time world champion Michael Schumacher, immediately got out of the car and walked back to Haas’s garage.

Interestingly, the race stewards reviewed the three options available in the event of an accident while the stewards sought to clean up the wreckage.

First, they implemented the virtual safety car, in which drivers have to drive slowly until a delta time.

The actual security car was deployed two minutes later, requiring the field to be bottled up behind a passing car.

Just six minutes later, the race was suspended with a red flag to allow commissioners to fix the barrier Schumacher had entered.

When the race resumed, Red Bull’s Sergio PĂ©rez led a progressive start.
