Free “Mass Effect” and “Dragon Age” DLC, as BioWare Points were suspended

EA will interrupt its BioWare point coin, which will allow players to download specific Mass Effect and Dragon Age specific content (DLC).

According to a recent Reddit post (via PC Gamer), EA has sent emails to users informing them about the removal of BioWare Points from the Origin store on October 11th.

While removing BioWare Points, the company confirmed that other currencies, such as crystals and platinum, in other BioWare titles will not be affected.

This means that most DLC that previously could only be purchased with BioWare Points will be free. This includes DLC for Dragon Age 2, Dragon Age: Origins, Mass Effect 2, and Mass Effect 3 (except for multiplayer packages).

“Over the next 90 days, you can use your BioWare points to purchase multiplayer packages for Mass Effect 3,” the developer added. “As of October 11, 2022, multiplayer packages can only be redeemed with the credits you have earned in the game.”

EA confirmed that players who previously purchased content with BioWare Points will still be able to access it.

It seems that fans of Mass Effect and Dragon Age are happy with the decision to remove the coin, as it has been useless for a few years. BioWare points were also not included in games such as Dragon Age: Inquisition and Mass Effect: Andromeda.

The decision also offers players who were unable to play the DLC the opportunity to get the content for free through Origin. BioWare released Mass Effect: Legendary Edition last year, which includes the main trilogy and all the DLC.

In other news, new leaks suggest that the upcoming Assassin’s Creed game will take place in Baghdad, rather than the Aztec setting that was previously rumored. According to Bloomberg reporter Jason Schreier, “AC’s next game is Rift, which is set in Baghdad.”
