“My God”: DCE surprises as Star Week gets even better; ‘red pencil’ through Knights – 3 Big Hits

The Sea Eagles have completely outscored the Knights, with a dominant 42-12 victory in round 18.

Young fast gunman Tolu Koula started the scoring and the first cracks were shown on Newcastle’s defensive line.

“What about Tolu Koula’s footwork,” Warren Smith said.

“Manly danger signs here, everyone was hit,” Steve Roach said.

But, the Knights were able to bounce back after a skillful Dominic Young shot found Adam Clune charging inside.

Jason Saab scored the next try for the Sea Eagles before Anthony Milford was sent to the trash, retaining Reuben Garrick during a break.

Adam O’Brien’s men were able to advance with only 12 men in the park courtesy of Kalyn Ponga’s brilliance, but the Knights ’joy ended here.

“Write down the try that makes the Knights smell in the second half,” Smith said.

“Good job, Ponga also stayed alive,” Roach said.

“He jumps out of a couple of tackles and how about speed.”

Cherry-Evans, just out of an Origin master class, set to work and offered two strange rehearsal assists to accumulate points.

“Breeding it really was something to see,” Smith said.

“Look at the pass inside, nice to see,” Roach said.

Warren Smith, of the Fox League, even went so far as to say that the Maroons midfielder “was catching the mickey.”

THE SEA EAGLES EXPERIENCE SHINES

The pair of halves of Daly Cherry-Evans and Kieren Foran’s Sea Eagles have been held high again.

The experienced pair have played more than 500 games between them and on Wednesday Cherry-Evans starred in the Maroons series win, playing a dominant role in the series ’decision at Suncorp Stadium.

Although Foran had a good performance, he was overshadowed by the brilliance of his counterpart, with praise piled up in the Maroons midfield defense.

“What a week Daly Cherry-Evans has had … My God, backing up Origin and doing a performance like this,” Yvonne Sampson said.

“From a skill set standpoint, Daly Cherry-Evans is one of those players who has absolutely every skill,” Corey Parker said.

“His professionalism when it comes to reading the play, knowing what to do and when he just squeezed the screws on the Knights.”

THE LIGHTING EXHIBITION OF PONGA

Ponga has translated the representative form to the club land with a good performance against the Sea Eagles.

The Newcastle marquee man constantly threatened the line and seemed as dangerous as he did in the Game III Origin decision.

Ponga won the honors of the match man at Suncorp Stadium and Knights fans will be pleased with his efforts in the four-day support.

“But, it seems dangerous to put on,” Roach said.

With just 12 men on the field after Anthony Milford’s sin, Ponga delivered, finding Lachlan Fitzgibbon with an impressive short ball before backing Enari Tuala inside to score.

“Write down the rehearsal that makes the Knights smell in the second half,”

“Good job, Ponga also stayed alive,” Roach said.

“He jumps out of a couple of tackles and how about speed.”

Ponga finished with 166 running yards, five breaks and a try even though his team was dominated by the Sea Eagles.

GREAT CALL TO KNIGHTS

Fox League’s Corey Parker has made a big call after another defeat of the Adam O’Brien Knights in 2022.

The former Broncos and Maroons legend believes the Knights season is over after being dominated by the Sea Eagles.

“They’re all kinds, the red feather can go through the Knights for 2022,” Parker said.

“They’re miles away.”

The Hunter men have only managed five wins in 17 appearances and are in thirteenth place with just six games to play.

Mathematically, the Knights can make it to the finals, but that result seems almost impossible with just one win between seventh and tenth place.
