Warframe developer Digital Extremes has announced that it has announced its new Soulframe action MMO at TennoCon 2022.
It is described as a free-to-play Warframe sister title inspired by various works such as The NeverEnding Story (1984) and projects by Hayao Miyazaki and Studio Ghibli such as Princess Mononoke (1997), highlighting a collision between the industry and the nature.
Creative director Geoff Crookes added an additional insight:
“Vanity [in ‘Soulframe’] is that the world itself is a little angry at what has been done to it, and the terrain below tends to change throughout the day. So there will be proceduralism within the networks of caves and crevices, and so on under the world. “
Instead of science fiction, the game consists of fantastic themes, with cooperative battles between players and environments and environments generated by procedures. And rather than shooting, the focus here is melee combat, so expect “much slower and heavier” confrontations.
