Manchester United have made three signings this summer, but goal-scoring guru Fabrizio Romano has revealed that they have no plans to stop there and that Frenkie de Jong is the next target.
Left-back Tyrell Malaysia became United’s first signing of the Erik ten Hag era after agreeing to pay Feyenoord £ 13m.
Former Tottenham and Brentford midfielder Christian Eriksen arrived after free and signed a three-year deal at Old Trafford.
United have now confirmed that they have reached an agreement with Ajax for the transfer of Lisandro Martínez. The defender will cost £ 49 million initially and the move is subject to the completion of a medical examination and the granting of a visa to the UK.
Ten Hag is still looking to strengthen its squad before the 2022-23 season and Barcelona’s Frenkie de Jong remains his main target.
“An important week is coming to understand more about Frenkie de Jong’s situation,” Romano said on his YouTube channel.
“From now on, they tell me it’s still the same. There is an agreement between Manchester United and Barcelona, 75 million euros plus an additional 10 million euros for everything to be done between the two clubs.
“They are ready to complete the negotiation, but Frenkie still wants to stay in Barcelona. This is the current situation. Let’s see what happens during the week because it will be important to understand Frenkie’s final position and his agent’s final position.”
While the De Jong deal would bring United’s total spending to more than £ 120 million this summer, they are also looking to address other areas.
“Manchester United will be busy with other possible signings,” added Romano. “We know it’s not over.
“We know they are looking for a striker, they are trying to understand the situation of the right winger and it depends on [Aaron] Wan-Bissaka, so Man Utd will move into the market. “
