Emirates has released an update of its dispute with Heathrow over the airport’s recent decision to limit the number of daily passengers during the summer.
Last week, the Gulf carrier had issued a strong statement condemning what it called Heathrow’s “totally unreasonable and unacceptable” measure, which Emirates said had given it only 36 hours to comply with capacity cuts.
In response, Heathrow said that “We have tried to give as much support as possible to the airlines and our limit of 100,000 daily departing passengers is significantly higher than the 64,000 limit at Schiphol,” adding that “it would be disappointing if instead of working together, any The airline would like to put the benefits ahead of a safe and reliable passenger journey “.
But in a more conciliatory joint statement, the two airlines said the Emirates chairman and Heathrow CEO had held “a constructive meeting” with the Dubai-based airline which agreed it was “ready and willing to work with the airport to correct the situation during the period “. the next two weeks, to maintain the balance between demand and capacity and offer passengers a quiet and reliable trip to Heathrow this summer ”.
Emirates also said it had limited more sales on its flights from central London airport until mid-August “to help Heathrow increase its resources”, adding that it was “working to adjust capacity”.
Meanwhile, the company said its flights from Heathrow, which are currently six a day, will operate as planned, and passengers on the tickets could travel on booking.
The Heathrow capacity limit will remain in effect until 9/11, with CEO John Holland-Kaye stating that “In doing this intervention now, our goal is to protect the flights of the vast majority of passengers at Heathrow. this summer and give everyone confidence, whoever travels around the airport will have a safe and reliable trip and will arrive at their destination with their bags ”.
