The transformer fire at the Hoover Dam causes an explosion; no injuries were reported

LAS VEGAS, Nevada (FOX5) – A Hoover Dam transformer caught fire Tuesday morning, causing an explosion and plumes of smoke.

The Boulder City Fire Department said the fire was extinguished when teams arrived.

The regional director of the Claims Office, Jacklynn L. Gould, said that around 10 a.m., the A5 transformer caught fire and shut down at approximately 10:30 p.m.

Gould said there were no injuries to visitors or employees. There was also no risk to the power grid and energy was still being generated from the power plant.

The Boulder City Fire Department is on its way to an emergency call at Hoover Dam. No further information is available at this time.
