Three people with COVID-19 died last week, according to data released Tuesday by the PEI Department of Health and Welfare.
Two of the people who died were 80 or older. The other person was between 60 and 79 years old.
There have now been 49 COVID-19-related deaths in PEI
The number of hospitalizations and positive cases also continues to increase.
There have been 1,706 new cases confirmed over the past seven days, compared to 1,270 the previous week. The average number of cases per day increased from 182 to 244.
41 in the hospital
There are 41 people hospitalized with COVID-19, including one in the ICU.
Twenty-one people were admitted due to COVID-19 and 20 people were admitted for other reasons and tested positive for COVID-19 on or after admission.
Last week, there were 19 people in the hospital with COVID-19.
There are 2,219 active cases in PEI. More than 44% of people tested last week were positive.
As of Tuesday, outbreaks of COVID-19 are in the following acute care facilities: Hillsborough Hospital Acute Psychiatry Unit, Prince County Hospital Medical Unit and Hospital Mouse.
There are also outbreaks at Kensington Community Care, Le Chez Nous Community Care and Summerset LTC.
