A Mississauga man identified as a swimmer who drowned in Lake Guelph

A swimmer who drowned Sunday in Lake Guelph has been identified as a Mississauga man, according to Ontario provincial police.

The OPP received calls about an endangered swimmer at the Lake Guelph Conservation Area around 5pm on July 17th.

A witness told CTV News Kitchener that he saw a man without a life jacket fighting, but the deep water made it difficult to help him.

“Everything went really fast, but I think we were swimming for at least a minute, and not just us, at least 10 people were there and shouting‘ help! ’, So when I realized that everything was going seriously, I tried to jump to the water, ”Mohi Sanisel said. “The water was very boggy. I asked someone if they had glasses or anything to see underwater, but it didn’t work.”

The main beach at Lake Guelph Conservation Area closed Sunday evening as emergency crews searched for the missing swimmer.

The OPP Underwater Research and Recovery Unit recovered a body the next day.

Police have identified the deceased as Rayan Kaber, 21, of Mississauga.

An autopsy has been scheduled.

So far this year there have been 43 drownings in Ontario, below the 47 reported at this time last year.
