The powerful DALL-E AI image generator is now available in beta

You no longer need to be part of a small club to test OpenAI’s ingenious DALL-E image generator. The consortium has released a beta version that will make DALL-E available to 1 million people on a waiting list in the coming weeks. If you enter, you will receive 50 free image credits in the first month and 15 each following month. Each credit offers four images based on an original request, or three if it offers an edit or variation request. A package of 115 credits is available for $ 15 if gifts are not enough.

The beta version also expands usage rights to include commercial projects. You can print the images on t-shirts or children’s books, for example. However, OpenAI will still reject uploads of DALL-E images that include realistic faces, named content (such as a specific person or place), and “explicit” material. The consortium is still concerned that people may abuse technology for misinformation, profound falsifications and other harmful purposes.

DALL-E gained popularity thanks to its ability to generate attractive images based solely on a casual description. It does not require you to provide every last detail. You can also modify certain parts of an image to achieve the desired effect. It’s both a showcase of AI’s potential and a surprisingly capable creative tool – you don’t need to know the first thing about art to produce something special.
