The working conditions of Mr. Frydenberg include certain exclusions covering government, regulators and institutions regulated by them. Goldman’s other senior regional advisers include former M16 chief Sir Alex Younger and Tito Mboweni, South Africa’s former finance minister.
Rothery and Frydenberg will head overseas in the coming weeks to meet colleagues and clients.
“One of the secrets to successful business is knowing your peers and knowing where to tap into the system to help get things done. That’s an invaluable part of the startup process,” Rothery said. .
Rothery said the bank’s clients were most interested in three topics: economics, geopolitics and ESG. Mr. Frydenberg was able to add insight into all of these, and he had strong relationships and was highly regarded in the business community.
“This is not a door-opening role, we don’t need that in our business. This is an additional resource to differentiate the councils,” he said.

Rothery said he expected M&A to continue to be strong because “there are a lot of companies that have been oversold and share prices look attractive.”
Mr Frydenberg said the role was “an exciting opportunity to work with leading companies as they navigate a challenging global economic environment”.
He declined to comment again on whether he will return to politics, although he has previously said he still has “some gas in that tank.” At the same time, he also said that he was looking forward to spending time with his family.
Asked if the new job would affect that, she said: “I still look forward to taking the kids to school.”
