A STORM could bring “lightning and hail” to Dorset today, the Met Office has warned.
The yellow alert, which includes Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole, will be in place between 10am and 10pm on Friday 22 July.
The Met Office says some places could see heavy showers and thunderstorms.
A Met Office spokesman said: “While some areas will remain dry, with slow movement, strong thunderstorms are likely to develop from mid to late morning, likely peaking in the afternoon and early hours in the evening before decaying later.
“Where thunderstorms occur, 20-25mm of rain is possible in less than an hour, and 40-50mm in 2-3 hours. Hail and frequent lightning are potential additional hazards.”
As for what to expect, the Met Office says:
- Showers and flash flooding may cause difficult driving conditions and some road closures.
- When flooding or lightning occurs, there is a possibility of delays and some cancellations of train and bus services.
- There is a slight chance of power outages and other loss of services to some homes and businesses.
The Met Office forecast for tomorrow is currently suggesting heavy rain between 9am and 11am.
