The first day of one of Australia’s biggest music festivals, Splendor in the Grass, has been canceled due to bad weather.
In a statement posted on social media on Friday, event organizers said a “major weather system” had forced the closure of the main stages at North Byron Parklands in New South Wales .

“A major weather system is currently on the east coast and may make landfall later today with more rain,” the statement said.

“In the interest of customer safety and in consultation with all relevant emergency services, we have decided to err on the side of caution and cancel performances on the main stages for today only.”
Day customers have been asked to stay away from the three-day event while repairs continue to the site.

“Moshtix will be contacting affected ticket holders directly next week, via the email address used to purchase their ticket, for more information on refunds,” the statement added.
“We ask for your patience as we work through the refund process. Please be assured that our events team is working very hard to provide the best possible experience under the current circumstances.

“We hope that Saturday and Sunday’s schedule will go ahead as planned.”
A number of big name acts are scheduled including Gorrilaz, Strokes, Glass Animals and Liam Gallagher.
In recent days the event has been affected by bad weather which has caused significant traffic delays for those accessing the festival.

Numerous images posted by festival-goers show camps flooded with muddy puddles. There are also reports of cars being bogged down at the event.
“We’re doing everything we can to keep everyone safe,” event organizers said Thursday.
“We need your help, so please be patient and kind with our staff and be respectful of our community and neighbors.”
