The heat lasts a little longer in Ontario and Quebec. The chance for storms that could bring wind, rain and hail will return over the weekend. While the storms are not expected to be a repeat of what happened last week, the storms could be severe in some regions. On Saturday, the focus will be on the Laurentians in Quebec, where there could be rotating storms. To find what you need to know, read below.

Saturday: The severe risk includes the potential for a rotating storm in eastern Ontario, southern Quebec
The threat of severe thunderstorms will increase again on Saturday as warm and humid conditions increase instability in sections of southern Ontario and southern Quebec.
The Laurentians will be the main focus with better dynamics for strong thunderstorms to develop in the afternoon. There will be a chance for rotating storms, but hail and strong winds will be more of a concern than a tornado threat.
For southern Ontario, lakes will influence active weather. The lack of wind in the upper levels will favor the development of lake breeze storms between Georgian Bay and Lake Ontario. Influences from Lake Simcoe and the Oak Ridges moraine could bring heavy rain and possible training storms to the northern Greater Toronto Area (GTA).

Sunday: The risk of severe weather moves into southern Ontario
Sunday could start on a strong note for parts of southern Ontario. We could see several thunderstorms across the region throughout the day on Sunday, with the first starting in the pre-dawn hours for the far southwest.
A line of storms could develop across the U.S. Upper Midwest Saturday night, crossing the southern Great Lakes overnight into Sunday morning. This line of storms could wake up people in southwestern Ontario with thunder and some strong winds.
Later in the day, the heat and humidity could allow the atmosphere to recover a bit from the morning activity. A cold front moving into the region could bring another round of storms in the afternoon. This second round of storms could approach severe limits, with strong wind gusts, small hail and heavy rain posing the main threats.

Looking ahead: Nice start to the last week of July
Conditions will be calmer and slightly cooler behind the cold front. We can expect lower humidity and temperatures around the season as we enter the last week of July, a change that will feel downright refreshing after last week.
Our next chance for active weather will arrive mid-next week, followed by a return to pleasant conditions and near-seasonal temperatures heading into the long weekend.
