It was a comical blunder that offered clues as to how Liz Truss wanted to govern.
Two minutes after beating Penny Mordaunt to claim second place in the Tory leadership contest on Wednesday, Truss, 46, tweeted to thank his supporters. In his haste, he missed a critical word. Promising to repay the trust shown in her, the foreign minister said she was “ready to hit the ground running from day one”.
It was a strange blunder for an otherwise media-savvy politician who has gone from running joke to runaway favorite to become the next prime minister. She is streets ahead of Rishi Sunak in the Tory member polls, having promised to cut taxes from “day one”.
That Truss is the favorite is beyond me
