Even though it was titled Endgame, the last Avengers movie will not be the last in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
During the Comic-Con presentation in Hall H, Marvel Studios announced two new Avengers movies. Avengers: The Kang Dynasty will arrive on May 2, 2025, with another Avengers movie months later, with Avengers: Secret Wars arriving on November 7, 2025.
Marvel boss Kevin Feige noted that back-to-back Avengers movies will end Phase 6 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. (It was announced that a Fantastic 4 film will begin the phase, with the film having a November 8, 2024 release date.) Kang is the time-traveling villain played by Jonathan Majors in the upcoming Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania (a version of him was introduced in the first season of Loki). And Secret Wars is likely a reference to writer Jonathan Hickman’s 2015 series of events that dealt with the multiverse and had a direct reference to Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. (There was also a 1980s series of the same name.)
The Avengers franchise is the jewel in Marvel’s crown. The first Avengers, released a decade ago, combined multiple film franchises (Iron Man, Captain America and Thor) and was seen as a gamble when Marvel announced its ambitions. The bet paid off, and the film became Marvel’s first to surpass a billion dollars. The fourth and most recent installment, 2019’s Avengers: Endgame briefly held the title of highest-grossing film of all time, with $2.79 billion worldwide.
These films will be the first installments made since the retirement of Robert Downey Jr. of the role of Iron Man.
