The first emotional evening for one of the 21 victims of the Texas school massacre was held on Monday.
Little Amerie Jo Garza, who was calling 911 for help when she was killed by an upset 18-year-old gunman, Salvador Ramos, was remembered during a one-night stand at Hillcrest Memorial Funeral Home in Uvalde.
The fourth-grader turned 10 just two weeks before she was killed in last week’s massacre at Robb d’Uvalde Elementary School. She is scheduled to be buried on Tuesday.

Her stepfather, medical technician Angel Garza, was treating another victim when he learned that among the dead was the girl he raised as his own, his mother told People magazine.
“She was helping the children,” Berlinda Arreola said of her son.
He said he was told the tragic news about his stepdaughter when another blood-stained student told him it was Amerie’s blood.

A total of 19 fourth-graders and two adult teachers were killed in the massacre, one of the largest in U.S. history and the deadliest shooting in elementary school since the killing of 26 students and educators. at Sandy Hook Elementary School in 2012.
