Strong thunderstorms roared through the Highway 7 corridor between Marmora and Lake and Frontenac Township overnight Sunday night.

At least one tornado touched down north of Marmora around 8:30 a.m., according to social media reports.

Environment Canada had issued severe thunderstorm and tornado warnings for the region shortly before the storms arrived.

There was widespread damage to houses and cottages, especially north of the village of Marmora.

The storms then moved eastward causing damage to the Lake Eldorado, Actinolite, Kaladar and Sharbot areas and causing property damage. Trees were downed, along with power lines, along and around Highway 7.

Quinte Dispatch scanner monitor reported that the OPP, Tweed and Marmora and Lake fire departments were inundated with calls coming from the Belleville dispatch center. There were no reports of serious injuries.

Nearly 2,000 Hydro One customers are without power from Marmora to Sharbot Lake, with the largest outages north of Marmora and in the Eldorado area.

There are small outages scattered throughout the region and Hydro One crews are assessing the damage and making repairs as best they can.
