The fisherman who was reported missing by worried loved ones after failing to return from a fishing trip at Green Head has been identified as 46-year-old Ian Gray.
Police were advised that Mr Gray, who normally returns to shore after fishing at around 4pm, had lingered at around 6.20pm on Sunday.
Mr Gray’s car and boat trailer remain at the boat ramp and family members have not heard from him overnight.
A search by several boats and a helicopter did not locate the man Sunday evening. The search resumed on Monday morning with the intervention of the maritime rescue and the aircraft of the Joint Rescue Coordination Center.
State Emergency Services volunteers are also scouring the land along the coast.
The search comes after another rescue mission was launched late yesterday in the Midwest to find a crew member from a Chinese bulk carrier anchored about 11.5km off the coast of Geraldton about 6.40pm sunday
The man, in his 30s, who is a Chinese national, was found alive about 10km off the coast of Oakajee by a search vessel about 8.40am on Monday.
He was taken to hospital for treatment.
