Karl Stefanovic has confirmed that he was overlooked for hosting the channel’s election coverage, admitting that the decision has affected him.
Karl Stefanovic has confirmed that Channel 9 has rejected him for hosting his election coverage at prime time.
The 47-year-old veteran television journalist, who has presented Today since 2005, he said frankly to the previous one Sunrise rival Samantha Armytage on her podcast who was “too much” to be overlooked by the coveted concert.
Although Stefanovic and his breakfast co-presenter Allison Langdon were the faces of the May 21 newsletter, Nine went with unconditional presenter Peter Overton and Melbourne news reader Alicia Loxley.
Speaking Stellar podcast Something to talk about with Samantha Armytage, Stefanovic admitted that resentment was disappointing.
“I was upset not to be the host of the election … It’s like playing all the preliminary games for two years and then losing the Super Bowl,” he said.
“But it’s not something you have to articulate in a particularly public way: ‘I was a lot of shit.’ No, no.
“When you’ve been on broadcasts for as long as I have, you’ll have some gigs, you won’t get them all.
“You think about it for a while and you leave, other people make these decisions … I’ll just stay home and [shrug it off]. ”
Langdon, 43, was especially “hurt” by the air Daily Telegraph Columnist Annette Sharp reported in mid-May that the TV presenter had “expelled her frustration” with Nine news director Darren Wick.
On the podcast, Stefanovic argued that the duo had done “a lot of work” before the election, including interviewing political figures on the show every day during the campaign.
Stefanovic also got important interviews with both Scott Morrison and Anthony Albanese before the election 60 minutes.
“I am just proud of what we have done day in and day out. And even though I’m upset, you have to put on your old boy’s pants and go to work the next day and continue with that, “Stefanovic added.
An honor that was not overlooked, however, was this year’s Logies, with Stefanovic ready for the Gold Logie.
This is the third time he has been nominated, after winning gold in 2011.
