Drake under fire for multiple private jet flights between Toronto and Hamilton

Drake is getting some heat after it was revealed that his private jet has taken multiple flights between Toronto and Hamilton.

According to CelebJets, an automated Twitter account that tracks flights made by private jets, the rap superstar’s Boeing 767 has flown the 70-kilometer route at least four times since June.

The last flight, which lasted just 14 minutes, was on July 22, according to CelebJet data.

On July 12, Drake’s plane took off on an 18-minute flight from Hamilton to Toronto. According to CelebJet data, the plane flew the same route again on June 28 and June 17.

According to Celebjet, every time the plane flies this route it emits at least four tons of carbon dioxide emissions and costs approximately $2,729 in fuel.

It is not known if Drake was on the plane for any of the flights, or why the trips were made.

Last year, Drake announced on Twitter that he would begin working with a US-based company called Aspiration to help reduce his personal carbon footprint.

“It’s exciting to partner with a company that has found an easy way to give everyone the ability to reduce their carbon footprint,” Drake said at the time.

The 35-year-old has faced criticism for the flights. Ian Borsuk, Environment Hamilton’s climate campaign coordinator, told CTV News Toronto that he believes the flights are “extremely wasteful.”

“I think as a society we need to have a conversation about whether we should be allowing these private flights to happen in the first place,” he said.

“I think it can be really frustrating for some people when, you know, they think, ‘Okay, well, I’m doing everything I can in my daily routine to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, like now take public transport, buy local products and things like that. And in some cases, you know, those private jet flights could be undoing one person’s effort for an entire year.”

Similar comments have been made about the flights on social media.

“Drake is part of the problem, taking multiple 15 minute flights to Hamilton and back while the environment is crumbling. Dude, take the GO train,” writer and filmmaker Jesse Hawken wrote on Twitter Monday.

“It’s ridiculous. This waste of fuel to move around the lake. It’s gluttonous,” another person wrote on Twitter.

“Drake why are you flying for 14 minutes… just get one of your sports cars,” said another.

“Why are there more people not talking about Drake flying his private jet from HAMILTON TO TORONTO? Absolutely sick,” said another.

Earlier this month, millionaire entrepreneur Kylie Jenner was attacked after her private jet took a three-minute flight to California.

“The lack of awareness is honestly astounding,” one person wrote.
