Britt and Brooks will face second round in Alabama Senate, after no candidate reaches 50%
Former Senate employee Katie Britt and Rep. Mo Brooks, R-Wing, will face off next month in a second round for Alabama’s Republican nomination to the U.S. Senate, according to the Associated Press.
Britt has a major lead in the primary day voting, but will not reach the 50% threshold needed to avoid a second round. Brooks, meanwhile, leads veteran Mike Durant enough to secure a second-place finish and a showdown against Britt that will likely be decided by Alabama’s next U.S. senator.
“It’s clear tonight that the people of Alabama want new blood. Yes. They want someone to go to Washington, DC and shake it up,” Britt told his followers, according to Fox News’ Ben Florence.
“Two months ago, experts declared our campaign dead in the water,” Brooks said. “Today? Call me Lazarus! Back from the dead, resurrected by Alabama citizens who found out who the real MAGA curator is and voted for America First. Thank you!”
Trump spokesman promotes “huge victories” for approved candidates, despite heavy loss in Georgia
Former President Donald Trump spokesman Taylor Budowich on Tuesday promoted the strength of Trump’s endorsement, although one of his biggest enemies in the Republican Party defeated a Trump-backed opponent.
“President Trump continues to win everywhere after another big night of victories for his endorsed candidates,” Budowich told Fox News’ Paul Steinhauser. “Americans are clearly united in restoring President Trump’s leadership and policies in 2022 and beyond.”
Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp, who resisted Trump’s efforts to overturn the 2020 presidential election, easily defeated former Sen. David Perdue, the former president’s nominee to challenge the governor. Kemp’s victory was the largest to date for a GOP candidate who faced a Trump-backed opponent.

Sarah Sanders wins Republican nomination as governor of Arkansas
Former White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders is expected to win Arkansas Republican gubernatorial primaries, according to the Associated Press.
Endorsed at the beginning of his career by former President Trump, Sanders hopes to replace incumbent Governor Asa Hutchinson, who has a limited term and has served as governor of the state since 2015.

Trump-backed Ken Paxton wins Texas AG primary, leaving last Bush in office
Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton successfully fought a major challenge from Texas Land Commissioner George P. Bush on Tuesday, meaning the last member of the Bush political dynasty in an elected office will soon be without a job.
Paxton’s victory, projected by the Associated Press, is also a victory for former President Donald Trump, who endorsed the attorney general for re-election. Trump was seen losing his election as Georgia governor and secretary of state on Tuesday night.
Paxton is best known nationally for trying to legally reverse the results of the 2020 presidential election and for his aggressive actions to take over President Biden’s administration in court. Marjorie Taylor Greene wins primary after challenging establishment-backed primaries
Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga., Won the GOP nomination for her seat on Tuesday after a major challenge backed by the establishment of businesswoman Jennifer Strahan.
Greene received significant criticism from many in the GOP for his controversial past comments, including some that were anti-Semitic. Greene has apologized for many of his previous comments, but Congress Democrats have removed him from House committees.
Strahan was backed by the Republican Jewish Coalition and other DC figures such as Senator Bill Cassidy, R-La. But that wasn’t enough to push her on the Greene, a Trump supporter in her bright red district in northern Georgia.
In Arkansas, Sarah Sanders preferred to win the GOP nomination and Boozman hopes to retain a seat in the Senate
Polls in Arkansas have closed as former White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders is favored to win Republican nomination for governor, and incumbent Sen. John Boozman hopes to defend top rivals in a contested race.
Endorsed early by President Trump, Sanders hopes to secure his party’s nomination in an attempt to replace incumbent Governor Asa Hutchinson, who has a limited term and has served as state governor since 2015.
Ahead of Tuesday’s election, Sanders, who announced his candidacy for governor in January 2021, conducted a constant poll ahead of Francis “Doc” Washburn, his main rival. Washburn is a former radio presenter who now has his own national podcast.
