Weather in Perth: storms, rain, strong winds in the metropolitan area

If your lawn needs mowing, you may be too late.

After a couple of glorious winter days, the storms are heading for Perth.

A cold front will move in Thursday night and Friday, with a chance for storms Friday afternoon.

The rain will taper off Saturday, but another “strong” cold front will move through the metro area Monday, bringing rain through much of the work week.

Perth Bureau of Meteorology duty forecaster Caroline Crow said the second cold front would be particularly strong, bringing winds, heavy rain and thunderstorms with the worst weather expected to hit on Tuesday.

“It’s going to be a lot of rain and wind next week … it’s a strong front,” he said.

The temperatures will not be pleasant either, with the maximum of the whole week at 17ÂșC.

A high wind warning is in place for the Perth coast for Friday.

The Freo Dockers are confident they can bury their wet weather demons if they brave the rain in Friday night’s AFL blockbuster against Melbourne.

Optus Stadium’s turf took a beating last week when it hosted three sporting events in as many days and 10-15mm of rain forecast for Perth on Friday is set to make conditions even tougher.

Fremantle have struggled in the wet this year, losing to Gold Coast and Collingwood in rounds nine and ten.

Big questions remain over whether the slippery Dockers can handle wet and slippery conditions and the clash with the Demons will give them the perfect opportunity to answer their critics.
