Bob Dylan’s accuser drops sex-abuse lawsuit after claims he destroyed evidence

A woman who accused Bob Dylan of sexually abusing her in 1965, when she was 12, dropped her lawsuit Thursday. The anonymous plaintiff, identified only as JC, asked for a permanent dismissal the day after the singer’s legal team claimed she had destroyed key evidence. “This case is over. It’s outrageous that it was ever brought,” Dylan’s lead attorney said in a statement emailed to Billboard. “We’re glad the plaintiff has dropped this lawyer-driven farce and the case has been dismissed with prejudice.” The woman, who alleged that Dylan abused her over a six-week period at Manhattan’s Chelsea Hotel, was herself accused of “irretrievably” compromising the integrity of her claims by removing of messages, the contents of which have not been made public. After the complaint was filed last summer, Dylan’s lawyers were quick to call it a “brazen riot disguised as a lawsuit.”
