Son faces court charged with murder after assaulting his mother with a pot plant

A NSW man accused of attacking his elderly mother with a pot plant has appeared in court charged with her murder.

David Andrew Mapp, 56, did not apply for bail at Wyong Local Court on Friday and was remanded in custody until September 20, when his case will be mentioned.

He is accused of murdering his 82-year-old mother and driving while disqualified.

Emergency services were called to a home in Tumbi Umbi, on the Central Coast, at around 5.15pm on Thursday to reports of a social disturbance.

Inside the home, paramedics found the dead woman who had suffered head injuries.

Police will allege he assaulted her with a pot plant in the early hours of the morning before leaving the premises.

He is said to have then returned and called emergency services.

NSW Police said paramedics found the 82-year-old woman dead at her Tumbi Umbi home with head injuries.

“A crime scene has been established at the home and the circumstances surrounding the incident are being investigated,” a police spokesman said earlier.

The pair are believed to have lived together in the house.
