Two North Carolina residents won $1 million in Friday’s Mega Millions drawing.
One ticket was sold in Charlotte at Adam’s Mart on Elm Lane and the other was sold in Mooresville at a Store N Save, according to a release from the NC Education Lottery.
Twenty-six people won $1 million across the country Friday night, according to the release.
“This huge Mega Millions jackpot created a lot of fun. Every ticket sold in North Carolina helped raise more money for education this year,” said Mark Michalko, executive director of the NC Education Lottery.
Twelve North Carolinians won $10,000.
While Friday night’s Mega Millions jackpot soared to $1.337 billion, it wasn’t the biggest prize ever. According to the NC Education Lottery press release, the Powerball prize of $1.58 billion in January 2016 was the highest prize ever won.
A ticket sold at the Circle K on West Williams Street in Apex, which cost just $2, netted someone $10,000.
The NC Education Lottery said Friday night’s winners have 180 days to claim their prizes.
