US stocks faltered in afternoon trading on Thursday as investors weighed a new batch of corporate earnings reports and the number of Americans filing for unemployment benefits rose.
The S&P 500 fell 0.1%, a day after jumping 1.6%. The tech-focused Nasdaq Composite rose 0.4% and the Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 0.3%.
