The VCH translation and interpretation framework is deployed in Richmond

Always looking for better results, Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) has developed a patient-centered translation and interpretation framework, recently introduced in the Richmond Community of Care. The framework aims to provide equitable access and quality care to patients and clients who may find a limited command of English, including support for new immigrants.

The translation and interpretation framework was developed from the conclusions of a Community commitment to translation and interpretation made in 2020. This included a review of translation practices, as well as a commitment to communities and interpreters. Relevant stakeholders to better understand the distribution of written materials and to highlight opportunities to improve the communication of health information.

The compromise conclusions were used immediately. Starting with Phase 2 of the BC COVID-19 Immunization Plan, VCH began translating key information into 11 languages, developing collaborative relationships with community organizations that provide services to newcomers and other speaking citizens. languages ​​to distribute this information and explored ways to provide cultural translation and navigation. through volunteers at vaccination clinics.

In April, VCH was recognized by the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC). VCH’s Translation Engagement Report Pandemic Communications entry won an IABC Gold Quill Award of Merit 2022 in the COVID-19 Communication and Response and Recovery Management category.

This award is based on the IAP2 Core Value Award given to VCH’s Translation Interpretation Engagement in September 2021.
