Temperatures in Toronto will reach the low 40s when combined with humidity on Sunday as much of southern Ontario remains under heat warnings issued by Environment Canada.
Overnight, temperatures will drop into the mid-twenties, they say. Cooler temperatures are forecast for Monday.
Heat advisories are currently in place for much of southern Ontario, from Ottawa to Barrie and Windsor.
INCREASED RISK OF HEAT DISEASE
Environment Canada warns residents that risks from heat are greatest for young children, pregnant women, older adults, people with chronic illnesses and people who work or exercise outdoors.
“Heat advisories are issued when very high temperature or humidity conditions are expected to pose a high risk of heat illness, such as heat stroke or heat exhaustion,” the agency says.
They advise drinking plenty of water, checking with family and friends, never leaving people or pets in vehicles and taking regular breaks if working or exercising outdoors.
