Not long after Nintendo added Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards to the Switch Online N64 service a few weeks ago, a bug was discovered that broke the game, preventing players from progressing under certain conditions.
Nintendo went public last week – revealing that an update would be released to fix the problem (Kirby was shocked at submarine levels) while apologizing to gamers for the inconvenience. Now, this update has been officially released, moving the Switch Online N64 application from version 2.3.0 to version 2.3.1.
Dataminer and Twitter user OatmealDome has shared some details about this latest release, as Nintendo doesn’t normally offer patch notes for apps like this:
[NSO – Nintendo 64] Version 2.3.1 has been released with bug fixes for Kirby 64. That’s it. Technical details! The error may have originated in N’s AOT compiler for MIPS -> aarch64, as the only updated files were AOT .nro and .pcb. Interestingly, switchbrew says that the NRO is not used, but these were the only files changed (not even the main executable of the emulator).
Nintendo has previously released several fixes for the Switch Online N64 app, improving the overall experience slowly but steadily. Along with the recent Kirby 64 game update, there were some minor tweaks to games like Star Fox 64, Dr. Mario 64 and Mario Golf.
There have also been some serious improvements to games like The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, The Fog Restaurant, which was originally missing from the Switch Online emulation.
