The RCMP is requesting public assistance in its investigation into a report of assault and attempted kidnapping on Highway 180 between Saint-Quentin and Bathurst.
According to an RCMP statement, a woman was driving on the highway to Bathurst on Monday evening, about 25 minutes after Saint-Quentin, when another woman pointed to her and asked for help to change a tire.
Two men assaulted the driver when she got out of her vehicle, she reported, and tried to force her into the van.
The woman said she drove away from the men and returned to her vehicle, but the van followed her for about six or eight minutes before turning around and going to the other side.
The RCMP in the Chaleur region is looking for any dashboard video that could show the van, which the woman described as white or light gray, involved in the Monday night incident near Mount Carleton.
Anyone with information about the incident, or who was on Highway 180 near Saint-Quentin between 4pm and 8pm on Monday, is asked to contact the RCMP Regional de Chaleur at 506 -548-7771. Information can also be provided anonymously through Crime Stoppers by calling 1-800-222-TIPS (8477), downloading the P3 secure mobile app, or through Secure Web Tips at www.crimenb.ca.
