New Jersey on Tuesday reported 1,872 positive tests confirmed by COVID-19 and one confirmed death, as the United States has reached more than 84 million cases.
The seven-day average of the confirmed case status was 3,341 on Tuesday, 16% less than a week ago, but still 54% more than a month ago.
The statewide transmission rate for Saturday was 1.09. The transmission rate reported daily by the Department of Health was not available on Sunday, Monday or Tuesday. When the baud rate is greater than 1, this means that each new case leads to at least one additional case and the outbreak is expanding.
There were 844 patients with confirmed or suspected cases of coronavirus reported in 67 of the state’s 71 hospitals Monday night. Four hospitals did not report data. Hospitalizations remain significantly lower than when they reached a high of 6,089 on Jan. 10 during the omicron wave.
There were at least 80 people discharged in the 24-hour period that ended Monday, according to state data. Of those hospitalized, 97 were in intensive care and 39 were in ventilators.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention now lists 11 New Jersey counties with “high” transmission rates: Atlantic, Burlington, Camden, Cape May, Gloucester, Mercer, Monmouth, Morris, Ocean, Salem and Sussex.
Those in high-risk areas are advised to wear a mask indoors on public and public transportation and keep up to date on vaccinations, according to the CDC.
Ten counties are in the medium risk category: Bergen, Cumberland, Essex, Hudson, Hunterdon, Middlesex, Passaic, Somerset, Union and Warren. It is not recommended to wear masks in the middle and lower regions.
TOTAL NUMBER
New Jersey has reported a total of 2,055,353 confirmed cases of COVID-19 of more than 17.8 million PCR tests performed in more than two years since the state reported its first known case on 4 March 2020.
Garden State has also reported about 339,242 positive antigens or rapid tests, which are considered probable cases. And there are numerous cases that have probably never been counted, including positive home tests that are not included in the state numbers.
The state of 9.2 million residents reported 33,702 deaths from COVID-19: 30,633 confirmed fatalities and 3,069 probable.

SCHOOL NUMBERS AND LONG-TERM ATTENTION
For the week ending May 22, with 57.8% of schools reporting data, another 10,948 cases of COVID-19 were reported among staff (3,066) and students (7,882) in schools. New Jersey.
Since the start of the school year, there have been 135,409 students and 40,649 school staff members who have contracted COVID-19 in New Jersey, although the state has never had more than two-thirds of school districts reporting data in weekends.

At least 9,117 deaths from COVID-19 in the state have occurred among residents and staff members of nursing homes and other long-term care centers, according to state data.
