You now have two days to delete this embarrassing WhatsApp message

Did you send a very inappropriate text intended for your boo in your head, I don’t know? Now you have extra time to save your face and delete it, well, if you use WhatsApp, at least.

WhatsApp users now have just over two days after sending a message to delete it instead of one hour, the company announced today.

To start using the new feature right now, open the WhatsApp group or individual chat where you sent the messages. Make sure you touch and hold the content you want to get rid of, click “Delete,” then select “Delete for everyone” or “Delete for me.”

However, before you go deleting, be aware that there’s a (slight) catch: all recipients need to be updated to the latest version of WhatsApp for this to actually work, and you won’t actually receive any notification if the message has not been deleted.

Still, this could be a useful new feature that can help WhatsApp gain a slight edge over Apple’s iMessage instant messaging service. Apple, after all, doesn’t yet offer this capability and will only do so when its new iPhone, iPad, and Mac operating systems are released, possibly this fall.

For now, though, the iOS 16 beta only gives users two minutes to log out, and only if recipients have also downloaded the beta. Which, let’s be honest, isn’t something you can count on.
