Family devastated when teenage father shot at Cradley Heath Park says he will never walk again

A teenage father has been told he will never walk again after being shot in the back while walking through a park with friends. Connor Harper, 17, was shot dead on a recreational lot on Homer Hill Road in Cradley Heath, Sandwell.

He received a total of three shots while with a group of friends on the night of Friday, April 8th. Her family does not know why her son, who is the father of a six-month-old son, Jaiden, was the target.

West Midlands police are treating the shooting as an attempted murder, but have so far made no arrests. A fundraising page has been created to support Connor.

He is currently in hospital. Photographs taken by his family show his body leaning on a large sling on a bed.

Last month, they revealed how doctors were waiting to see if Connor could walk again. In an update, her older sister Leanne Bayliss, 30, of Rowley Regis, told BlackCountryLive: “Doctors have told Connor she will never walk again.

“We are devastated that his life will never return to what it was, but so grateful and fortunate that we still have him here with us. At the moment, he is being taught to live his life in a wheelchair.

“He will spend his 18th birthday in hospital.” Although the circumstances are tragic for Connor, at least she met her son in the hospital for the first time.

Previously, he was not allowed to enter the room. But Connor has moved to the hospital, where he is now allowed more daily visits, one at a time, for two hours.

When asked for an update on the shooting investigation, a West Midlands police spokesman said, “No arrests have been made. Our investigations are continuing.” To make a donation to the fundraising page, visit gofundme.com.
