Iqaluit Public Health is holding a COVID-19 vaccine clinic for children under the age of five who meet the department’s eligibility criteria.
The Department of Health did so this Monday in a press release.
Moderna’s Spikevax COVID-19 vaccines will be administered by appointment Monday through Friday from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. until August 19.
Because the Government of Nunavut has received a limited amount of pediatric doses, it is rolling out the vaccine for young children.
Currently eligible groups include:
- Four year olds
- Those aged six months to four years who are considered to be immunosuppressed, have serious lung or heart disease, are undergoing treatment for cancer and/or are taking drugs that suppress the immune system.
Iqaluit Public Health is located in Building 1091 near the old airport terminal.
Appointments can be reserved by calling (867) 975-4810.
Patients are asked to wear a mask to their appointment.
“The COVID-19 vaccine is Nunavut’s best protection against this virus, and all Nunavummiut are encouraged to get vaccinated as soon as they are eligible,” Health spokeswoman Danarae Sommerville said in a news release .
